Nowadays, it still endures as the most emblematic image in Benidorm, known as "the Balcony to the Mediterranean", with its white stone balustrade and its viewpoint. |

The oldest evidences of human presence found in Benidorm are the Tossal de la Cala archaeological remains, a hillock located at the end of the Poniente Beach. These remains reveal the existence of Iberian settlements from the 3rd to the 1st centuries before Christ. Other cultures, as the Romans (there are fragments of Punic and Roman ships wrecked in the Benidorm bay) or the Arabs also left their trace here. This later Iberian settlement evidences the economic activity this area had as a commercial exchange centre. There are only a few things to see since most of the site has been destroyed
by the Tossal Housing Development. An area of about 500 m2 is situated
next to the way to gain access to the viewpoint. From the protecting fence,
human habitation remains can be identified. A bit upwards, there is an
area of about 300 m2 with some structures. Both areas belong to the Benidorm
Town Council, which is responsible for their preservation. The visit is
very interesting since you will discover the result of urban development
pressure on an important coastal archaeological site. |

The waxworks in the museum are created by the sculptor Jose Ballester Peris, whose works are exhibited in the main museums of Europe, the United States and Mexico. It shows more than 130 wax figures placed in different scenes: royalty,
politicians, art, music, horror, cinema, cowboy town, sports and bullfighting. |
| BENIDORM ISLAND | |
It is located in line with the
Punta Canfali or Balcony to the Mediterranean and is a reference point
dividing Benidorm in two beaches: the Poniente and the Levante Beaches.
|
|
|
The Benidorm Island is also known as "the Journalists' Island". It is uninhabited and there is only a building. According to the legend, Roldan, the son of the Princess Berta, the Charlemagne's
sister, was so furious that he strongly banged his sword "Durandarte"
on the Puig Campana. The piece of mountain missing in the Puig Campana
is said to be the Benidorm Island. . |
