The Spanish Law System is fair, just and long established. There are some slight differences between Spain and the UK and Ireland but your appointed Spanish lawyer will guide you through these and the lawyer will be bound by the (Spanish Law Society). Expedite your purchase through a Spanish Lawyer and you will be protected try to do it without a lawyer and if anything goes wrong you will only have yourself to blame, no different to the UK and Ireland.
The question that is on everyone's lips, but do the debts stay with the property not the individual in Spain? True and your lawyer knows this, so you will sign contracts that guarantee the property will be debt free when ownership passes to you.
