The property will be sold in Euros, if you are a citizen of the Republic of Ireland this will not have any issues at all because Ireland is part of the Euro zone. The UK however remains outside the Euro zone so you will have to venture into a bit of currency dealing to buy Euros with Sterling to make the property purchase in Spain. It is not as daunting as it might seem. You can buy Euros through your bank but they will only give you a very poor exchange rate, if you're lucky, slightly better than the tourist rate. A preferred route is to set up an account with a currency dealer based in London. First telephone and talk to them and you will see how easy it is. They will set up an account for you at no cost and then you can make purchases of Euros through them settling up from sterling in your own bank. As and when required they effect euro transfers to your lawyer in Spain.
